Epinephrine Salts – Medicinal Nitroglycerine – P & U Listed Syringe Waste Following is a list of each state and whether or not they are consistent with the EPA’s stance on Epinephrine Salts, Medicinal Nitroglycerine and P & U Listed Used Syringe Waste. Epinephrine Salts

SUMMARY: Epinephrine Salts are not a P-Listed waste.
DETAILS: USEPA Memo Dated 10/07/2007. Subject: Scope of Hazardous Waste Rule Listing (Epinephrine)

This was not an official rule change. Rather it was a memorandum by the EPA giving guidance. States do not adopt such
documents, however, they can concur or agree with the EPA’s stance.

Medicinal Nitroglycerine

SUMMARY: Medicinal Nitroglycerin is not a P-Listed waste.
DETAILS: On 5/16/2001, the EPA excluded all P and U-Listed wastes listed solely for an ignitability, reactivity or corrosivity
characteristic once they no longer exhibit a characteristic. Since Nitroglycerin (P081) is listed solely for its reactivity
characteristic and medicinal nitroglycerin does not exhibit the reactivity characteristic, this removes Nitroglycerin from the EPA
P-Listed waste.
This was an official rule change by the EPA (Mixture and Derived-From Rules) USEPA Federal Register Environmental
Document, Hazardous Waste Identification Rule ACTION: Final rule. [Federal Register: May 16, 2001 (Volume 66, Number
95)][Rules and Regulations][ Page 27286], 40 CFR 261.3(g)(1).
Note, some states may not have official documentation adopting this rule change, however, their state regulations automatically
accept any rule change by the EPA.

P & U Listed Used Syringe Waste

SUMMARY: Residue in a used syringe is exempt from being a P or U listed Waste.
DETAILS: USEPA Letter Dated 4/18/2008. Subject: Scope of Hazardous Waste Rule Listing
(Epinephrine)

This was not an official rule change. Rather it was a memorandum by the EPA giving guidance. States
do not adopt such documents, however, they can concur or agree with the EPA’s stance.
