Effective october 15, 2011 the following changes will apply to medical coverage at the monroe county correctional center:

Medical Co-Payments
Pursuant to IC 11-12-5-5 and Monroe County Ordinance 2002-35, the following changes apply to medical co-payment at the Monroe County Correctional Center. These provisions apply to medical co-payments by a jail inmate. The term jail inmate includes and applies to a person confined to the Monroe County Correctional Center except that it shall not include or apply to any inmate who:  Maintains a policy of insurance from a private company covering medical care, dental care, eye care or any other health care-related service.  Pays for their medical care.  Has been committed to the Indiana Department of Correction. Effective October 15, 2011: Except as provided below, every inmate shall be required to make co-payments of $15.00 for each provision of any of the following services except prescriptions which will require a $7.00 co-payment for each prescription and any required refill.  Any other health-care-related service A jail inmate is not required to make the co-payment required above if:  The inmate does not have funds in their commissary account or trust account at  The inmate does not have funds in their commissary account or trust account within sixty (60) days after the service is provided.  The service is provided due to a medical emergency.  The service is provided as a result of an injury received in the correctional center;  The service is provided at the request of the sheriff, jail administrator or designee. The payments received pursuant to this policy shall be deposited in the county general fund as required by law. Over-the-Counter (OTC) Medication
OTC medications such a Tylenol, Antacid, and aspirin are available through the Commissary. You may have up to three (3) packages of any combination of Tylenol, Motrin, Aspirin or Cold/Flu medication in your cell for personal use at any time. If you have unauthorized medication in your possession, or medication in excess of established amounts, including OTC medication, you will be subject to disciplinary action. An inmate may obtain additional OTC medication if health services staff determine that he/she has an immediate medical need which requires increased amounts of OTC medication. If you are indigent, Tylenol is available for order on commissary. (a) Indigent inmates will be provided up to two (2) packets of Tylenol weekly. An indigent inmate is an inmate whose trust account has had a balance of less than $3.00 for the past week. (b) An indigent inmate may obtain additional Tylenol medication if health services staff determine that he/she has an immediate medical need which requires increased amounts of Tylenol. (c) In the event an indigent inmate was previously furnished OTC medications and later has funds deposited in their account, the expense of said items shall be deducted from the inmate's trust account at the rate of 50% of all future deposit(s) until the balance is paid in full. (d) To prevent abuses of this section (e.g., inmate shows a pattern of depleting his or her commissary funds before requesting OTC medications), restrictions may be imposed on the provisions of this section. Indigent Commissary
Commissary indigent items/ packages are available by ordering on the weekly commissary order form. Indigent packages include: 3 envelopes (including postage), 3 sheets of paper, 1 pencil, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo and deodorant. The current cost of the commissary indigent package is $1.98. Individual indigent items may be ordered in lieu of an indigent packet. If an inmate remains indigent during their incarceration, no payment is necessary. Should an inmate order commissary indigent items/package and later has funds deposited in his/her account, the expense of said items shall be deducted from the inmate’s trust account at the rate of 50% of all future deposit(s) until the balance is paid in full.
